Collector Profile: DTM homologation
The 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II connects a rare road-going homologation series with Mercedes-Benz’s defining DTM touring-car era.

The Evolution II gives this collection a direct road-car link to the DTM era. Its homologation purpose is visible in the aerodynamic package; originality and provenance determine the strength of an individual example.
Mercedes-Benz built 502 Evolution II road cars, all finished in blauschwarz metallic. The enlarged aerodynamic package, adjustable rear wing and 17-inch six-spoke wheels make its DTM purpose visible in a road-legal W201 sedan.
The Evolution II gives this chapter its touring-car homologation anchor. Klaus Ludwig won the 1992 DTM drivers’ title in a racing Evolution II; the road car should be assessed on its own originality and provenance.
Built to homologate Mercedes-Benz’s DTM contender, the Evolution II belongs in the Racing Legacy chapter as the road car behind a significant competition programme. A collector should verify original Evolution II identity, factory specification, bodywork, wing, wheel design, engine and documented ownership and maintenance history.
