Collector Index: Marque Chapter

Mercedes-Benz: Racing Legacy

A competition-shaped lineage from the 300 SLR and Alloy Gullwing through the DTM-derived Evolution II and CLK GTR to the AMG ONE.

The collector rationale

This selection considers the relationship between Mercedes-Benz competition history and exceptional road cars. It combines historical reference points with more recent interpretations of performance, while recognising that not every important automobile is realistically available. A collector brief should distinguish an editorial ambition from an opportunity that can actually be substantiated.

One of two coupé prototypes

Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé

The 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé is the road-capable closed version of Mercedes-Benz’s 1955 racing sports car and one of the most historically significant automobiles ever constructed.

The Uhlenhaut Coupé provides a historical reference for the entire chapter. It is included for its importance rather than any assumption of market availability; any discussion of an individual car must begin with its identity, custodianship and documented history.

Twenty-nine-car alloy series

Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Alloy Gullwing

The aluminium-bodied 300 SL Gullwing is the rare lightweight evolution of the W198, created in a series of twenty-nine for competition-minded clients.

The alloy-bodied Gullwing is selected to distinguish a specific collecting proposition within the 300 SL family. Factory records establishing the body specification and a thorough understanding of repairs, restoration and component identity are fundamental to its assessment.

502-car DTM homologation series

Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II

The 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II connects a rare road-going homologation series with Mercedes-Benz’s defining DTM touring-car era.

Built to homologate Mercedes-Benz’s DTM contender, the Evolution II belongs in the Racing Legacy chapter as the road car behind a significant competition programme. A collector should verify original Evolution II identity, factory specification, bodywork, wing, wheel design, engine and documented ownership and maintenance history.

Collector profile

Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Straßenversion

The road-going CLK GTR is inseparable from Mercedes-AMG’s late-1990s GT1 competition programme and remains one of the most dramatic homologation-derived road cars of its era.

The CLK GTR brings the collection into the homologation era. A collector should establish the precise road-car identity and specification, then examine maintenance, use and the condition of specialist components with advisers familiar with this model.

Collector profile

Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Roadster

The CLK GTR Roadster is an exceptionally scarce open interpretation of the road-going CLK GTR, with only six examples widely documented.

The Roadster adds a separate interpretation of the CLK GTR concept. Its relevance should be assessed through the original build record and subsequent history, with particular care taken to distinguish factory configuration from later alterations.

Limited 722 Edition series

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition

The SLR McLaren 722 Edition sharpened the Anglo-German super-GT with more power, reduced mass, revised suspension and a specification referencing the 1955 Mille Miglia-winning number 722.

The 722 Edition provides a more focused expression of the SLR partnership. Confirming genuine edition identity and original specification is the first step, followed by assessment of service history, structural condition and the completeness of accompanying items.

Collector profile

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss

Limited to 75 examples, the SLR McLaren Stirling Moss removed the windscreen and roof to create an uncompromising speedster inspired by Mercedes-Benz racing heritage.

The Stirling Moss is selected for its distinctive speedster form and place within the SLR story. Intended use and practical ownership requirements deserve attention alongside factory specification, equipment and the documentary history of the individual car.

Final-era SLS performance flagship

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series

The SLS AMG Black Series is the most focused closed-roof SLS, combining the gullwing form with a higher-revving naturally aspirated V8 and extensive chassis and aerodynamic revisions.

The SLS Black Series gives this collection a focused interpretation of the modern gullwing. A collector should assess original specification, evidence of circuit use and the condition of carbon and aerodynamic components, supported by an appropriate specialist inspection.

Collector profile

Mercedes-AMG ONE

Limited to 275 examples, the Mercedes-AMG ONE translates Formula One-derived hybrid powertrain concepts into a road-legal hypercar.

The AMG ONE closes this chapter with a different relationship between competition technology and road use. A prospective acquisition should account for technical support, maintenance requirements and the precise status of the individual car, with intended use established early.

Build the collection

Atelier Grand Slam considers buyer mandates for individual automobiles and, where appropriate, the considered assembly of a complete marque lineage. Every search is subject to owner willingness, availability, diligence and client-defined parameters.
